Candidate-quality and placement rates

If you are a recruiter in San Francisco, then the only way that you can still afford to pay $3 a gallon these days to fill up your gas tank, is if you start increasing your placement rate. That’s easier said than done, because you have a growing talent pool (the unfortunately unemployed), and a slow-recovering job market, where other recruiters are fighting to fill the same position. At a time like this some recruiters become extremely creative, which helps them stand out from… Continue

Cool job sites

Cool – now what is that, exactly? To me, it means unusual (in a good way), well designed, and ‘of a piece’. In other words, if it’s different and hangs together, or approaches the job board paradigm in a different, effective way, it’s cool!

So here are a few job sites I think are cool...

Job clouds, job boards, and the job seeker

Matt Alder published a fascinating piece last week about ‘job clouds’ and why he thought Twitter could be the future of job boards. It was one of those “I wish I had written that!” moments for me, to be honest.

In brief, he posits the creation of a ‘job cloud’ created by multiple employer Twitter feeds of their jobs. This…

Social Media is going to takeover everything online...

Looks like that is the in topic right now...

Everyone and almost every biz online is talking about whether Social Media is going to takeover their niche business (job boards, dating sites, domaining, search and any other biz out there)..

Heard on CNBC, they were talking about Social Media sites competing with dating sites, apparently dating sites are doing just fine..(eharmony, match etc).

Its not just the small guys who are worried but even…

Jobs Bill

From what I have read it doesn't seem like the Jobs Bill will do much for small business. Opinions?

Here is an article about it.

http://radioviceonline.com/small-business-not-likely-to-take-advantage-of-jobs-bill/

Does anyone know where to get a full copy of the bill?

Thanks,

Eric

Is your job site positioned to grow?

Doostang just announced that they’ve landed $1.25 million in new funding. That’s not a huge investment compared to the boom years, but it is a signal that our

industry may have reached bottom and is beginning to rebound.

So you’ve survived the worst. Now what are you going to do?

Do you have a plan for growth? If not, now is a good time to…

Pricing of job ads/CV database access

Hi All,

Just reaching out to everyone to get some opinions of what all you job board owners consider to be the future of paid advertising/resume database access.

Obviously there are arguments for and against charging advertisers for job ad posting and/or resume database access but I'm curious to know if the boards that do currently charge feel threatened by the new wave of social media (tiwtter etc).

Anyone care to share their ideas?

And then there were 2: Monster buys Hotjobs

Well, well well. The big 3 are now the big 2. Monster is buying Hotjobs.

For us niche job boaders this is good for us. One less national site to compete with. Overall I think the bigger that Monster becomes the harder it is for them to compete with the small niche sites. But in the short term its a good acquisition for the boys in Maynard to expand their brand.

Here's the press release:

Monster to Acquire HotJobs Business and Enter into Multi-year… Continue

Online advertisement on shoestring budget

Finding the right advertisement platform and spending the right limit has been extremely challenging in this economy. I have been actively exploring to limit the marketing spending within the limited budget to gain the right return. May be a new trend of viral marketing practice has to be introduced, which should be based on the "on demand concept" and it should be easily adoptable by even startups or small business etc .

Are you Ready to Capture the New Talent?

January & February months are typically known as peak job-hunting seasons. Are you ready to snatch up the new talent before your competitors do?

It is a known fact that many employed candidates either resign from their jobs at the beginning of the New Year or actively start… Continue
