Job Board solutions from Simply Hired

I have recently launched my new entry level job board, gigs4grads.com and have been searching for a good back fill job board solution to bring a large number of jobs to our site. I would like to get your thoughts on the Jobamatic software that is offered by Simply Hired. I hear it powers the job boards for both LinkedIn and MySpace so my initial reaction is that it must be a pretty powerful solution. Does anyone currently employ this technology in their job board? What are your experiences with… Continue

Private vs Public - What do you think?

I own and a Social Networking Community/Job Board for tech professionals called SmartTechPeople.com. My member base grows on a daily basis but I am struggling to get employers to post their jobs. I was thinking about making it an invite only community to get a better quality of members hoping that it will increase the numbers of employers actually posting jobs. (Job Posting is Free) . Do you think turning SmartTechPeople into a private, invite only community will increase the job postings ?

Don't make me jump! Use your ATS sparingly....

If HMOs were developed to drive normally well-adjusted sick people over the edge, then I would posit that the typical ATS was designed to make a job seeker sink into deep and utter despair.

Yes, I understand why an ATS is a useful - in some cases, necessary - part of a company’s career site, particularly in these days of few jobs and many applicants

Demographics of job searchers age 55+?

Can anyone point me in the direction of published demographics for online job searches? I am specifically looking for data that shows that the age 55+ group is one of the fastest growing demos (either online overall, or even better, on job searches)

Thanks,

Brendan

Be ready: Susan Boyle and your career site

By now, you’ve probably heard the story of Susan Boyle’s triumphant appearance on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ (and if not, take a look!). Apart from the incredible positive change in her own life, I think Susan’s story holds a few lessons for job board and career site owners:

* You are judged on your appearance: Watch the video. Until she begins to sing, Susan is an object of the audience’s preconceptions and derision. So ask… Continue

craigslist in the news for all the wrong reasons

The news today is filled with stories about Craigslist, the defacto reason for national newspaper classifieds decline.

But these headlines aren't winning them any fans. From lawsuits about prostitution to 'killers' the San Francisco company is getting a lot of bad press, a lot.

I dont have any stats to back me up but this recent news must be making some companies nervous about posting jobs on there. What company wants to post ads that may be attracting… Continue

Simplyhired.com no longer free

Has anyone else heard that you have to pay now a specific amount each month to get your jobs on Simplyhired?

Friday morning, the first phone call I received was from Simplyhired letting me know that if I can no longer pay their minimum required budget per site, then our jobs will no longer be included in their search engine. We received no official notification in writing, no e-mail, nothing else, just the phone call.

Has anyone else heard or experienced this as well? It… Continue

bad karma on twitter for entrepreneurs

At first, I thought Twitter was foolish, then, I tried it and became enamored. About six months later, I lost all respect for Twitter. A few months more, and I can finally see its strengths and weaknesses in balance.

The strengths are pretty easy - meet and interact with new people that interest you, market yourself, get to know your "friends" better, know what's going on right now and eavesdrop on conversations you'd never be privileged to hear in any other… Continue
