Perfection – and why it’s useful (sometimes)

You know your job board or career site isn’t perfect, right? (And if you don’t, I’m sure you can find someone that will tell you that). In fact, perfection can be pretty annoying, particularly when it manifests itself as a ‘rule’ or ‘mandate’.

Hotjobs selling? article says its 'on the block'

The big 3 may soon become the big 2. PCmag is reporting (no surprise) that Yahoo is shopping around non core assets such as Hotjobs. Will CareerBuilder or Monster be the buyer? I'm sure they will both be bidding if the price is right...there's no doubt that Hotjobs has peaked. I wonder what the valuation will be for a declining icon?

Every day I peruse ERE.net, Cheezhead, Workforce, and a bunch of other sites. Why? Well, of course I’m avoiding my ‘real’ work…but I’m also trying to keep up with the ever-shifting winds of change in the HR, recruiting, and job board worlds. In 1997 when I launched my first job board, you could put a handful of jobs online, call yourself a job board and attract attention. A lot of things were easier back then - Goto.com traffic cost just pennies and eventually when Google AdWords surfaced, it was dirt cheap also. No longer.

Cool stuff – who needs it?
