Joblighted: as web 2.0 as it gets

I've seen web 2.0 job boards before, but this one is the geekiest of the geek. Joblighted is an "aggregator" which combs all the tech blog job boads like Crunchbase and 37signals. Its sports an interactive map as the centerpiece of its design, oh yes, and they twitter among other cool details.

Reminds me of that Neil Diamond song..."Turn on your heart (job) light, let it shine wherever you… Continue

A new career in income tax preparation could be a safety net for some of the thousands of bank and financial services employees who are losing their jobs due to the economic crisis. Many of those being laid off are older employees who would not be able to find another comparable full-time job, but are not ready to retire.

Tax professionals need many of the same qualifications that bankers and financial professionals possess. A tax preparer must be able to conduct a thorough interview to… Continue

Contrarian Hiring - Plucking Top Talent from the Droves of Job Seekers

Recent article on this great topic:

Rick Fecteau runs a chain of automobile dealerships in New Hampshire & Massachusetts. One would think that his dealerships are suffering like many other dealerships during this tough economic time. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel that is causing his business to hold it’s own and even improve - the availability of top performers from other dealerships that lost their jobs.

Instead of waiting around for the market to… Continue

Monster on TV

So Monster is getting into bed with the cable companies and will soon have a monster channel on those "on demand" sections of your cable box. I dont know too many people who hunt for jobs on their tv, ...I may be wrong but this isnt the kind of 'new' monster I was expecting.

Need Advise On Job Board software

Hi,

I'm currently looking for a Job Board software for me site www.JobHost.ca which will be the leading job site.

I recently cam across www.AtlantaJobs.com and I find the site very appealing, and ultimately I'd like JobHost.ca to look and feel the similar to AtlantaJobs.com.

I like the features of ejobsitesoftware.com, however the $1500 is a bit to much as of now.

Do you guys know of other job board software? or are any of you selling your… Continue

the view from HR Tech - Chicago

A few of my friends in the biz are at HR Tech in Chicago this week for that conference. I asked Ethan Bloomfield from Jobtarget to send back a few pics and tell us what its like.

He writes: "HR Tech is a big show, with tons of exhibitors. Lots of Talent Management systems, training and development tools, etc. Monster was there – but I didn’t see CareerBuilder – Monster’s presence was less pronounced than other shows we see them at.… Continue

Crawling Indeed is overkill

I thought sites like Indeed and SimplyHired were the pinnacle of job searching techniques. After all they crawl the job boards so you dont have too. But watch out! Now there's a site called Nushio that crawls the major job search engines such as Indeed, Jobster, CareerJet, Flipdog & Juju.

This is overkill in my opinion. Indeed always backfills Jobster, Flipdog… Continue

Job Board software

I am looking for suggestions on a back end software package to run our job board - what suggestions would people have? I am hoping to hear about excellent software packages and packages I should avoid. Ideally the package will have the ability to support up to 30 different sites from one or two servers.

Any feedback would be greatly apprciated.

What is our competitive landscape?

Does anyone know how many sites there are that are actively selling online job postings to employers and recruiters? (i.e., companies that have at least one sales person making calls on their behalf). I know that there are tens of thousands of job boards, but how many of them are actively selling?

Thanks,

Brendan

Job boards and domain names

I have always believed in keyword based domain names. They should describe your site to a tee. After attending SMX East in NYC this week my thoughts were confirmed. I attended a session by a Yahoo engineer on what you should do with your domains. I also learned that sub directories are slightly better for seo than subdomains.

Check out the pic below, it says:

-URLs should be easily readable and describe your content

-Shorter the better < than 5 words

-Clean… Continue
