What are the challenges brought by major Google results change? SEO gets more personalized and emphasis shifts towards wider content coverage.
How would search results change for job board?
Both popular (i.e. medical jobs) and long tail (i.e. accountant jobs Houston ACCA) searches will shift towards websites matching other job seeker “properties” (i.e. location, functions, skills, job title, companies, etc.).
Last week one of my sites which accepts free postings started getting irrelevant job postings from another job board. That job board is called Hound.com and this is my public plea to end the spam!
I have rejected all their postings so far (40 and counting) and emailed them to stop but the jobs keep coming.
So I am now forced to call them out publicly.
Job boards should not be spamming other job boards. I… Continue
It was an ugly, painful year. I haven’t talked to a single job board owner – not one – who saw revenue declines of less than 35 to 70 percent. Many had to lay off employees, cut benefits, or otherwise pull back. They weren’t alone, of course – almost every aspect of our economy (Goldman Sachs excepted) has suffered.
So, we’re agreed – 2009 sucked. But surely we learned a few things, right? Hmmm….
1. Bailouts are for banks, not job boards (unless you’re Monster in… Continue

Steve Crosbie, Managing Director at job board operator Supply Chain Management International Ltd reflects upon the state of the job board market as we approach the end of 2009.
It seems as if there is an insatiable appetite for individuals and companies to launch job boards. You do not have to trawl the Internet too deeply to find what seems like a new job board launch nearly every day. Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against budding internet entrepreneurs wishing to make… Continue

Angelo Zucaro is a former Indeed sales exec who now runs a new aggregator/niche board directory called JobSearchPage.com. I recently had an email exchange with him about his new venture.
Why did you start it?
The fact that aggregators have changed the industry so much, made me very lucky to be a part of the change… Continue

Over the past few years, the New Zealand government has been working on a single all-of-government logon service (igovt) and identity verification service (IVS). This will allow users to use the same logon details to access all participating government service provider's online services.

As devastating as this recession has been for the laid-off and unemployed, it has also been a gut wrenching experience for many small business owners (recruiters) including the author. American entrepreneurs have learned some hard lessons that won't be forgotten. When I say the entire American business landscape has changed, it's because small business is not actually small. Just have a look at these… Continue

It’s easy to do: you work and obsess over building the perfect job board, making certain that posting a resume is easier than sneezing – but then you forget about the world outside your site. Or you spend hours on backlinks, blog postings, and email campaigns, only to discover that your site just isn’t that easy to use.
Job boards have to function equally well both inside the site and outside the site. As a colleague once said, “You can build the best store in… Continue
I've read many times over the years about job boards dying and also the contrary position of how they will emerge from this recession like the Phoenix, stronger than ever.. Yada yada yada..
Let's face it, there are a variety of angles to this story although I tend to side with the one who actually vote with their… Continue

It's been a while since I have updated my status on this site for my job board Sustainable Energy Jobs. A lot has happened over the last year and has changed the way in which I am approaching my job board business. I have incorporated more into my site then just job postings!
As Social Media has really taken on a more dominate role in the marketplace, I find it changed my perception as to how I think job boards can succeed and thrive in the future.
iHire has been operating job boards for more than ten years and would consider acquiring job boards compatible with its 60 current niche job boards. Please contact David MacFadyen if you are considering selling a job board. david.macfadyen@ihirellc.com
